Death Cab For Cutie @ Metropolis, Fremantle
Concerts, Fremantle, Western Australia, Music, PhotographyI’ve been waiting over two years to catch Death Cab For Cutie, ever since I missed their first headlining tour back in July 2006. That isn’t to say that I’m a massive fan of DCYC though. I’m just a moderate fan who likes what he hears. I don’t really remember what the situation was back then- I either must have skimped on the tickets or attempted to get a photo pass… or both! Cut to last night, I had a serious case of the heebie-jeebies for the whole afternoon before the “biggest indie band ever” was set to play at Metropolis in Fremantle.
More photos after the cut…
While the lights were dimmed and the band appeared from the darkness, my first impression was “Where’s Ben Gibbard?”. Having been accustomed to seeing press photos of a band of semi-geeky boys, it was a real surprise to see this rugged man with mutton-chops and long hair letting out angelic cries of “So this is the new year!”. It was certainly a shock when compared to their appearance on The OC a while back. Put those glasses back on! (Though, I’m pretty sure Gibbard doesn’t wear them while performing…)
I shall be out of action from 24th August until 3rd September while I’m in Ballarat for work. Though, there might be a special surprise posting… the music will follow me where ever I go!

Hey Antz,
Last time we saw them it was a FAR more recognisable Gibbard. He was fatter, had a full beard and huge glasses.
This time it took me a few seconds to figure out which one it was too.
Good on him for losing the weight, I say!

Very nice shots. We were very tempted to get tickets to Death Cab but something else got in the way.
