V8 Supercars 2008 @ Barbagello Raceway, Wanneroo
Concerts, OffsideHere’s something a bit different…
Now, I’m probably the last person you’d think who would go to the V8 Supercars up at Barbagello Raceway. I’d be doing a disservice to the male population if I said I had no idea about cars. Well, I know a little so it was going to be, at the very least, interesting to watch these cars speeding around on a track.
I had won the Corporate Box ticket through a Surge Protector seminar, held by Phoenix Contact. Door prize raffle! Free drinks, free food and special viewing at the starting line. Since I was headed off to Elton John after the Supercars, I had my camera gear with me. So I thought I might try taking photos of some cars.
Let me just say- it is bloody hard work! My technique needs a lot of work, but I managed to pull a few good ones. Tracking moving targets is extremely difficult. If you want a sharp car with a motion-blurred background, you need to be following the car at the same speed that it is going. Timing and precision is key. By gosh, was it a great challenge!
Beer, cars and women. That’s what made the day. No, wait a minute… where are the photos of the promo girls? Well, contrary to what you might think (Are they in his private collection?), by the time I left the viewing boxes to find some models, it had started raining and they all seemed to disappear. Fancy that, hey?

It’s a great speedway at Barbagello Raceway. There are lots and lots of fans out there witnessing the V8 Supercars, with total non-stop action until the end. It’s totally awesome!
