If I could capture an ounce of Taasha Coates’ soul, this photo would be it. She’s a woman, you know what I mean? Apologies to Wolfmother there. She is an embodiment of sensuality and it makes me shudder when I see her perform on-stage. Just look at those legs! But enough with the fantasies- I reckon The Audreys are currently the best Australian folk band out there. I’d sure as hope that they get a second ARIA for their latest album When The Flood Comes.

You can’t make good music if you don’t have a good band. Well, most of the time that’s the case anyway. The Audreys on-stage chemistry is so natural and warm. There are glances between bandmates and smiles all around. Ms. Coates will flow between her band as if she were the air around them. They just well so well together.

There were a couple of things different about The Fly By Night Club tonight. Firstly, as soon as I had stepped into the hangar, it felt like the venue had rotated by 90 degrees. The stage is now almost directly to your left as you walk in, with a conveniently place merchandise desk by the door. It’s a welcome change. Although the stage is now sitting along the short side of the room, the floor is now longer and gives the impression of a bigger venue. Nice! Bad thing is, the front row is directly in front of the cold airflow from the entrance. Luckily, The Audreys were there to warm us up.

Secondly, the crowd was a totally different demographic. I have a feeling The Audreys get played on ABC Radio National- the average age at the concert would have been between 40-50 years! It was cute seeing a 50-year-old couple standing front-row-centre stage. I had felt more self-conscious than usual with the older contingent behind me. The crowd was more quiet than usual too.
